A private funeral service for Aiko Sumi, 84 year-old, Saitama prefecture, Japan born Issei, who passed away on December 31, 2014 in Rancho Palos Verdes was held on Tuesday, January 6, 2015 at Green Hills Memorial Chapel with Rev. Sam Tonomura officiating. 

 She is survived by her husband, Dr. Walter Sumi; children, Debbie (Morten Beyer) Sumi of Dallas, TX, Tracy (Craig) Levasseur of Golden, CO, Elliot (Nani) Sumi, Greg Sumi; grandchildren, Makena, Keilani, and Ellison Sumi; siblings, Shizu Watanabe and Masao Sekiguchi, both of Japan; also survived by many other nieces, nephews, and other relatives.
